Brief Description of Project
|
More than five miles of fences were constructed at various sites at Eglin AFB, Florida prior to Naval training missions being moved from Puerto Rico. The fences were placed in such a manner as to protect buried cultural resources from being disturbed during the training exercises. Sites to be protected had to be identified, concurrence on their preservation obtained from the state, the public consulted, and the mitigations put into place prior to training. An added complication was that many of the areas impacted possibly contained unexploded ordnance (UXO) because Eglin AFB is a test bombing range. Safety considerations were a large portion of the statement of work in this contract.
